Behind this site

The idea

Film has a name for the moment you press the shutter: the latent image. The picture is already on the negative, you just can't see it yet. This site is built on that thought: digital by day, analog by night, and one develop moment reserved for the darkroom.

The build

I'm a designer, not a coder, and this site is honest about that: I built it in pair programming with an AI. I brought the concept, the design system and nine years of opinions about what belongs on a screen. The AI brought the semicolons. Every decision here is mine.

Under the hood: no framework, no cookies, no tracking. The sealed case studies are AES-256 encrypted, and the password is turned into a key inside your browser. It never leaves it.

The sound

The click in the darkroom is a real mechanical SLR shutter: a recording, because a shutter is metal and springs, and you can't fake that with oscillators. The digital blip is the opposite on purpose: a machine should sound like arithmetic, so it's synthesised from two square-wave tones on the spot.

The type & the light

Jost carries the text, Archivo shouts the headlines, IBM Plex Mono labels everything technical. Olive ink by day; after dark, the safelight takes over. The accent is a pen, not paint.

The film

Everything in the film section is shot on 35mm and self-developed. Two weeks or more of not knowing whether it worked: good practice for shipping.
